Durham Project: Split Level Remodel
This split level remodel revitalized a home that had been stuck in the 1960’s.
The exterior was updated with new Hardiplank siding, a new roof and gutters and new windows and doors. A new covered entrance was added. In the rear, a new screened porch was added to provide needed entertaining space. A 100’ retaining wall was installed to alleviate existing water drainage issues.
The kitchen was gutted and redesigned and now has beautiful new Wellborn cabinets and granite countertops. The kitchen was opened up to the living space. The family room was vaulted and expanded, and all of the ceilings on the main floor were raised to 9 feet. The foyer and entry to this split level home were reworked.
A new bath and half bath were added, and the laundry room was relocated. The electrical and plumbing were completely revamped in the entire home. All the interior doors were replaced, new hardwood floors were installed in the entire main floor and stairs, and new carpet was installed in the bedrooms.
The brick fireplace was updated with new stone veneer to the ceiling, new hearth, tile surround, and wood mantle. All the existing bathrooms were gutted and updated with new tile, cabinets, countertops, hardware, lighting and plumbing fixtures. The entire home was repainted on the inside.
The finished home speaks for itself both inside and out. It feels like a brand new home, and now the adult kids and grandkids fight over who gets to stay at the house when visiting.
