Questions on Kitchen Remodeling by Corbett Design Build
Remodeling your kitchen can be one of the best decisions you make for your home. Not only will it improve your day-to-day enjoyment of your home by making a more beautiful and functional space, but it will increase the value of your entire house! We at Corbett Design Build have gathered a variety of the most common questions our customers have about the process. This page is here to help you make the most informed decision possible when it comes time to start your kitchen renovation.
How long does a kitchen renovation take?
While every remodel is different due to the scope of the project, it usually takes several months to go from our first meeting to a completed job. The design process, permitting, inspections, and the availability of the materials you select, all play a part in this as well.
How can I plan for a kitchen remodel?
Before you pick up the phone to schedule a Complimentary consultation with Corbett Design Build, you can take a moment to write down your main goals for your kitchen. You might get ideas online from websites like Pinterest of finishes, fixtures, or key features you’d like included. You may get an idea of what you want based on function, and also how well it will fit with the rest of your home’s style. Later, you can share those boards you create with us.
What are the typical stages of a kitchen remodel?
Every renovation is different, but most kitchen remodels include the following items, broken down below:
- Preconstruction: Project design and specifications are generated through a series of meetings. Upon your approval, engineering is ordered (if needed) and permits are applied for.
- Meet with our in-house designer and local suppliers to make finish selections including cabinets, countertops, plumbing fixtures, electrical fixtures, tile, appliances, etc
- Foundation work for expansions
- Construction of new additions and/or walls
- Demo work to remove existing cabinets, wall panels, tiles, appliances, etc.
- Relocate or replace old plumbing while it is exposed
- Relocate or replace electrical and install new lighting where it’s needed
- Install insulation/drywall
- Installing new cabinets and trim
- Having the countertops measured, cut, and installed.
- Painting the walls and ceiling
- Installing backsplash
- Installing fixtures (faucets, sinks, lighting, etc)
- Installing flooring
- Installing appliances
How do I finance a kitchen remodel?
Options include home equity loans, bank loans, etc. We do not offer financing options, but will gladly work with your bank and their payment schedules.
Will remodeling a kitchen add value to my home?
Realtor Magazine reported a strong average return on investment of 84.5% to 98.5% for kitchen remodels. In certain locations where beautiful modern kitchens are more sought after, like New York City, these rates skyrocketed to over 120%! This means most if not all of the money you spend on your kitchen will come back to you if you decide to sell your home. Another great resource for information on return on investment is Remodeling Magazine’s annual Cost vs Value Report which is region-specific and gives very detailed average cost for several common projects.
How can I cut costs on a kitchen remodel?
Most of the cost in a kitchen remodel comes from the fixtures and finishes you select such as cabinets, countertops, appliances, tile, flooring, etc. During the pre-construction phase of the project, we work with you to set realistic allowances for those items.
How much does it cost to remodel a kitchen?
It varies greatly depending on the scope of the project, expansion, how much other areas of the house are impacted, existing conditions, and the materials you use. Cabinets alone can account for a large percentage of the total remodel cost, so choosing a stock, versus custom or semi-custom as well as any extra features you choose will impact the price dramatically. Choosing a reputable contractor will save you money as they can help you properly plan and design your project as well as provide cost-saving advice and do it right the first time.
Is it worth it to reface your cabinets?
Refacing cabinets is cheaper than full replacements, but also not the most cost-effective. The cabinet doors account for over 70% of the cabinet’s overall cost, meaning you might as well replace the entire thing, rather than pay 70% for just the door.
How to remodel your kitchen on a tight budget?
The cheapest way to remodel a kitchen without cutting corners is to do your research on materials and contractors beforehand and shore up a proper plan of action. Another way to be budget-friendly is to use well-priced, materials. People can sink all their money into exotic tiles and appliances when far more affordable options can still give you the overall effect of a full remodel.
