Complete Kitchen Renovation : The McLain Home
Type: Kitchen Renovation
Because the McLains had been planning their kitchen remodel for some time, they knew exactly what finishes and products they wished to use. From cork floors to solid cherry cabinets, they had thought it all through. They also desired to incorporate their existing breakfast nook into the new kitchen cabinet layout.
With their goals in mind, the existing kitchen was gutted and redesigned within the original space. The original kitchen's 8-foot ceilings were vaulted to make it feel larger and to better reflect the design of the rest of the home. Accomplishing the vault was quite a challenge as a beam could not go from wall to wall; two engineered LVL beams were bolted together to carry the existing roof loads and allow for the ceiling to be vaulted.
The kitchen's contemporary design was in keeping with the homeowners' decor and recessed lighting was used to showcase their beautiful paintings and fine art. Solid cherry cabinets provided tremendous amounts of storage throughout the kitchen. The cabinet layout also made good use of the breakfast nook area by providing a much needed and desired bar. Stainless steel appliances and island range hood continue the clean simple lines of the space. Not to be overlooked is the window and skylight placement which maximizes the natural light and brings the outside in. This show-stopping kitchen continues the home's gallery-like appeal.
