Is Your Home Ready for Holiday Guests?
It's that time of year again that we look forward to but dread all at the same timeā¦time for throwing holiday parties and inviting friends and family to come visit. It's a lot of fun, but it makes me tired just thinking about it. What can complicate matters is a home that is not laid out in a way that accommodates guests comfortably and functionally. We at Corbett Design Build won't be able to help with the convergence of personalities, but this is where we can help. We can help make your next holiday season more enjoyable for you and your family and friends by addressing your home's space frustrations. This holiday season, take note of those areas that could use some improvement in layout or additional space. Sometimes it helps to get a second set of eyes to point out those areas and solutions that you may have not considered.
Adding a receiving area can be very helpful. Also, removing walls and reconfiguring the kitchen can often improve flow immensely. Or maybe you've been dreaming about adding a first floor master suite and converting your current master into a very nice guest suite. This is a great time of year to start planning and get started before our busy season in the spring.
In the meantime, here are a few tips to make your guests feel welcomed this year:
- Entryway: Spruce up your entry. Replace any burned out light bulbs and make sure your sidewalks are well lit. Clean and declutter your porch and paint your front door. Add holiday greens and wreaths to welcome guests. Keep in mind the entrance gives guests their first impression of your home and small improvements can make a big impact.
- Coat Closet: Clean out your coat closet and add hooks and baskets for coats, bags and shoes. You may even want to paint the inside of your coat closet a nice color.
- Guest bathroom: Add a new soap dispenser, new bath and hand towels, a nightlight, and clean out a drawer for guests. You may want to include a drawer organizer with items for guests such as toothpaste, toothbrushes, razors, cotton balls and Q-tips.
- Small Details: Replace kitchen towels with new ones. Replace old family photos with newer ones. Add a new throw and pillows to dress up your couch. Your home presents better in the evening with candelight which warms any room and the shadows may hide any spots you missed while dusting.
"Be Careful" - The only drawback to making guests too comfortable, is that they may never want to leave.
