How Much Will My Remodeling Project Cost?

Let me start off by saying, there is no square foot price that I can give you. That only works when you are building a brand new house and I am the one making most of the decisions that impact price. That is a question we get all of the time, of course. And in this age of the internet and fast answers, we are prone to thinking that we can get a fast answer for everything. The problem with this in remodeling is there are so many variables between projects.

First of all, there are existing conditions to look at: what has to be fixed, are there any current code violations that will need to be addressed, what needs to be upgraded, are there some potential hidden issues that will have to be dealt with. These issues will cost something to take care of and become a part of your budget.

Secondly, how much collateral work will need to be done? All you may want to do is move a door, but suddenly you will need to repaint every room that that door is adjacent to. There are many potential collateral costs in remodeling that you may not think about initially.

Another reason we are not able to give you a fast answer to this question is that initially, we do not know what features you want incorporated into your remodel, and the price levels of the selections that you desire. Let’s compare this to asking a general question: How much will my vehicle cost? If I don’t know what make and model and features you are looking for, I will have no idea. In your mind, you may want a Mercedes S Class fully loaded, but if I do not know that, I may give you the price of a Hyundai Sonata 5-speed. There are differences to consider in both quality of products and in features. Additionally, I will need to find out if your project is more budget driven or product driven.

To have this question answered, you will need to take the time to thoroughly plan your project, so that all your needs will be addressed, including your budgetary ones. This is an area where we excel. Any price that you get without properly planning your project is going to be inaccurate.
