Characteristics of a Great Project Manager
Honestly, for several years, westruggled to find someone to fill the position of Project Manager who could meet our expectations and those of our clients. It seemed like I had to fill in more often than not to make sure our client’s needs were met and the job got done. I always knew that this position requires more than just construction knowledge, much more. Now that my son, David has taken over this position, I have figured out what was missing, ownership of the job. It is extremely hard to find someone who takes ownership of their job, and is willing to give 110 percent all the time, someone who is committed to our clients and to our company, someone who has a passion for excellence and demands that in others, and someone who genuinely cares about others. That is what David has brought to this position. He is doing an awesome job, and I know our current clients agree.
When you select someone to execute your project, you too are looking for someone like that to manage your project. Not only that, but someone who is a part of a company that functions well all the way around—from the person answering their phones to the accounting department all the way to the Owner. This ensures that not only will your project be managed well onsite, but that your interests are protected in how their subcontractors are managed and paid, proper licensing and all permitting requirements and regulations are met and in their overall financial stability.
Our relationship with you, our clients, begins like a dating relationship, and later when we decide to work together to bring your dreams to life for your home it is like a marriage relationship. We will be a part of your daily life until your project is completed. Like a marriage relationship, we want your trust and satisfaction with us to grow. We want to maintain open lines of communication to ensure that there are no misunderstandings and that your expectations and needs are met. Choosing a remodeler is not like buying a product—yes, you want to end up with a product, your envisioned remodeled home or addition, but you are selecting a service provider. One that you will need to work closely with and one who needs to share your passion for your project.
When you are deciding between General Contractors, it is more than selecting based on price, although that is one component, it is about choosing someone you can work closely with, who you can be sure has a passion for your project, who demands excellence, who maintains control of your project, who maintains open positive communication with you, who informs you of schedules, options, always seeks your input, remembers this is your home and your project and does not make decisions for you that you should make.

When you choose a remodeler, you are buying an experience, it could be good, or it could be very bad. Choose well.
