New Years Blessings
It is the start of a new year, and if you are anything like me and a lot of the people I know, I am glad that 2009 is history, and I am looking forward to 2010 and whatever it brings. Last year, business was tough, but we have survived and will continue to do so.
Going through tough times helps me to refocus and remember that the things that matter most in life are the things that I cannot buy, namely, my relationships with others. Family and friends are the most important part of my life and I consider them priceless. I have four natural children, and two step children—a total of three boys and three girls. And between them, I am blessed to have seven grandchildren so far—five boys and two girls from 12 years down to 3 months old.
This past Christmas, we had them all over to our home along with my Mom and Dad, my two sisters and their families. Almost everyone was able to make it. It was wall to wall people, but what a great time that we had together. These are the really important things in life, and regardless of what the economy is doing or not, we need to continue to cultivate those relationships.
Remembering to take the time to nourish those relationships even if business returns to its previous vigor will be key. I am thankful for the opportunities to stop and reflect occasionally, and try to make sure that I don’t miss the important things in the midst of all the "urgent" things of life.
No matter what 2010 brings, I challenge myself and everyone else to strive to focus on the important things of life, work hard, and trust God for the results---which none of us can control anyway.
