David Corbett Joins Corbett Design Build
This last month has been an exciting one for both me and the company. My oldest son, David, has joined the company. He will be taking over the responsibility for the production and management of each project. He has a degree in mechanical engineering from NC State, and has worked in process engineering for Cree during the last ten years. This has been a decision that has been in the making for the last year and a half. He called me one day in June of 2008, and asked if I had time to have a cup of coffee.
After 10 years of working in the high volume manufacturing industry, he expressed his desire to work closely with the customer. He wanted a more involved role in driving projects to completion and the rewards that accompany the successful completion of a construction project. Having worked for me since he was 14 up through college, he knew the construction field very well and told me that he wanted to transition back into the field.
I said that it was definitely a possibility, but I wanted to make sure that this was the best move for both him and his family and for me and the company. Over the last 18 months, he has worked with us on his days off. I am sure that many of you have met him at the home shows. His enthusiasm only grew the more that he worked with us, and he finally made the decision to make the move last month.
It is great to have him on board for a number of reasons. He is a very organized and capable young man, and if he doesn’t know the answer, he will tell you, and then go find out the answer and get back to you. He is taking ownership of all the projects, and his long term goal is to run the company someday. He therefore has a vested interest in making sure that every job runs as smoothly and efficiently as possible benefiting both our clients and the company. For David, this is not just a job, but a realized dream to work in the family business. I look forward to many years of working together.
